New tournament formats, house rules and club objectives

Clubs in EA Sports FC 27 receives several structural updates designed to increase variety in tournament play and to establish shared objectives within a club. Traditional formats are expanded with variable house rules, new small-sided match types, and a revised system of club objectives.

Small-sided formats: 1v1, 2v2, 3v3

Through the game world The Grounds, reduced player count match formats can now be played. In 1v1, each team includes a CPU controlled goalkeeper Pro as well as one outfield Pro player. In 2v2 and 3v3 formats, the goalkeeper Pro is removed, while goals are reduced in size. Victory is determined by which team scores more goals before the match timer expires.

House rules add variety to club tournaments

Club tournaments can now be played with so called house rules, which are intended to introduce variation throughout the year. Announced rule variants include Surprise Ball, King of the Pitch, No Rules, Headers and Volleys, Survival, and Distance. These formats significantly alter standard competitive play and are designed to ensure that clubs have incentives to compete outside the regular season structure.

Stadium spontaneous matches

The new Stadium Spontaneous Matches allow direct access to traditional stadium formats from within The Grounds. This includes Stadium Rush, live Rush tournaments, and spontaneous 11v11 matches. Entry into these modes transitions players from the open world into a conventional matchmaking system, where opponents of similar skill level are assigned. This enables competitive matches at any time without requiring a full club squad to assemble in advance.

This is further complemented by new 11v11 tournaments and live events within Clubs, which are intended to stand apart from the regular season and playoff structure.

Club objectives: shared goals for the entire club

A central new feature is the redesigned club objectives system. It is intended to give clubs and their members more opportunities to progress together and earn rewards collectively. Some objectives are tied to specific shared achievements, such as winning five league matches as a team. Others track cumulative progress across multiple gameplay sessions, for example a collective total of 50 1v1 wins achieved by any club members. This allows every member to contribute to club progress even when not playing together at the same time.

The objectives are divided into three categories:
Club milestones: long term objectives that must be completed by the entire club. Rewards include fans and increased club reputation. Milestones are structured into bronze, silver, and gold tiers.
Weekly and seasonal club objectives: tasks completed collectively within a week or season. Rewards include boosts, consumables, and coins.
Elite objectives: high difficulty weekly or seasonal goals aimed at advanced players.

Context

The new tournament formats and the club objective system share a common goal. Club life in Pro Clubs is no longer defined solely by the regular season and divisions, but increasingly by continuous and partially asynchronous participation from all members. Combined with the visible club reputation system in The Grounds, as outlined in our article on the new game world, this creates a structure in which sporting success within a club is reflected and rewarded beyond traditional league matches.
